Grant McNeill and Stephen Werner Called up to Hershey

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that defenseman Grant McNeill and forward Stephen Werner have been called-up to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

"It's always tough to have two important guys taken from your lineup," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But that is the nature of this business and I'm happy for them. I know they will do well at the next level."

Grant McNeill, 24, has been a stalwart on defense for South Carolina this season, one of only three players who have played in all 26 Stingrays games. He has one goal and one assist to go along with 108 penalty minutes, good for fifth in the ECHL and first amongst defensemen. The Vermillion, Alberta native was drafted in the third round, #68 overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers and has played three games in the NHL with Florida.

Stephen Werner, 23, is in his second year with the Stingrays, but last year played 26 games with the Bears. On the season, Werner has six goals and fifteen assists, which is good for second on the club. His 21 points are also second on the club. The Chevy Chase, MD native was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the third round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, #83 overall.

Listen in tomorrow night as the Stingrays look to tie their team record for ten consecutive wins as they play the Charlotte Checkers in Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. Fans can tune in to the Real 1340am beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Josh Heller, Voice of the Rays.

The Rays return to home ice on Sunday, Dec. 30th as they host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 4 p.m. Don't forget your skates for the last Skate with the Rays of 2007 following the conclusion of the game. The Stingrays will also play at home on Monday, Dec. 31st against the Columbia Inferno for a special New Year's Eve celebration with a 6 p.m. start time and a post-game celebratory balloon drop.
