Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - Lance Monych potted three goals for Mississippi, but it wasn't enough as the Texas Wildcatters defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves by a score of 10-5 in a wild game at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Saturday night
Mississippi got on the board first when Monych broke down the right wing and scored his 12th goal of the season over the glove of Texas goaltender Anton Khudobin at 6:54 of the first. Texas took a 2-1 lead into the locker room as John Adams snuck in from the point to fire a shot past Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey at 17:04 and Brandon Benedict pounded a goalmouth pass from Scott Champagne past Cey at 19:13.
Texas would rattle off four goals in the second period to increase their lead to 6-1, with Max Taylor scoring his first of the night at 2:47, Kevin Baker scoring his first of the evening at 5:31, Moises Gutierrez notching his first of the soiree at 7:56, and Baker finding the net for the second time at 16:05.
The Sea Wolves got out to a quick start in the third period when Lance Monych cashed in on a kooky bounce off of the boards just 12 seconds into the period with Mississippi on the power play. Monych would complete his hat trick with a blast from the top of the left circle on the power play at 2:58. Texas would regain a four goal lead when Gutierrez scored his second of the night at 4:04. Jason Tejchma banged his 10th of the season past Khudobin at 6:29. Max Taylor scored his second of the evening on the power play at 8:47, before his college teammate Chase Trull banged home his third of the season at 9:02. Taylor would score again for his third of the evening at 9:48, and Gutierrez would finish the scoring for Texas at 12:56 as the Wildcatters would hang on for the 10-5 win.
Mississippi was 3-for-10 on the power play and Morgan Cey made 28 of 38 saves to take the loss.
