Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons fell to the Victoria Salmon Kings 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday in front of 4,719 fans at Save Mart Center.
Oren Eizenman scored the only goal of the opening period to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Eizenman gathered in a pass from Kenny MacAulay in the high slot, and beat goaltender Julien Ellis with a snapshot for his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
Victoria pulled even with a power-play goal 5:49 into the second period. Jordan Krestanovich won a face-off to Gary Gladue along the wall, and Gladue fed Ryan Wade at the blue line. Wade skated to the center of the stripe and had his shot tipped past Jake Moreland by Kevin Estrada, who notched his ninth of the year.
Fresno answered late in the period to regain the lead. Matt Stefanishion tried to get the puck through to Oren Eizenman on the near post, but had the pass knocked down. However, Jarrett Konkle was in position at the top of the crease to pick up the loose puck and bang it past Ellis to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
The Salmon Kings again tied the score just 1:18 into the final period. Estrada found Ash Goldie wide open in the right-wing circle, and he one timed a shot past Moreland for his 20th goal of the season.
Fresno scored a power-play goal at the eight-minute mark of the third period to take a 3-2 lead, and end a 1-for-34 drought on the man advantage. Brady Leisenring hit John Morlang at the top of the left-wing circle, and Morlang blasted a shot over Ellis for his seventh of the year.
For the third time in the game, the Salmon Kings evened the score, getting a goal from Paul Ballantyne at the 16:03 mark. Moreland made the initial save, but Ballantyne gathered in the loose puck on the far post and pushed the rebound past the Falcons' goaltender for his second goal of the year.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to the shootout. It went to the 10th round, where P.O. Beaulieu was stopped by Ellis, and Dylan Yeo scored for Victoria to give the Salmon Kings the win.
The Falcons conclude the 2007 portion of their schedule on Sunday, once again hosting the Salmon Kings at 5:00 p.m. It's a Comcast Cable Kids' Day, with tickets for kids 14 and younger just $7.
