Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves top the Fisher Cats by a score of 6-3 in a 13 inning thriller, courtesy of a walk of grand slam by Drew Longley.
Erie would open the score up in the third inning as Drew Longley would triple with one out to bring up Harold Castro. Castro would hit a deep fly ball to center field, which would be deep enough to score Longley. Erie would take the 1-0 lead on the sacrifice from Castro.
Both teams would then be held scoreless until the sixth inning, where New Hampshire would tie the game at one. Shane Opitz would send a single into center, then be followed up by a Devon Travis single. John Berti would then single home Opitz with two outs, knotting the game at one.
The game would still be tied up at one heading into the ninth inning. John Berti would blast his first run of the year to give the "?Cats a 2-1 lead as Erie came to bat. The Wolves' would match that run as a Wade Gaynor two out single would keep the game alive, scoring Josh Price who came into pinch run for James Robbins. The game would head to extras all tied up at two runs apiece.
There would be no score in extra innings until the 13th inning in which New Hampshire would go ahead 3-2. Shane Optiz would single to get the inning started for the "?Cats and he would be doubled home with two outs off of a Dalton Pompey line drive to center.
It was last chance time for Erie in the bottom of the 13th as they found themselves trailing by a run. Connor Harrell would lead the inning off with a single, and Tony Thomas would follow with a walk leaving runners on first and second with nobody out. Wade Gaynor would then step up and draw another walk giving Erie the bases loaded with nobody out, which brought up catcher Drew Longley. Longley would provide the heroics in this one as he crushed his second homer of the season, a walk off grand slam off of Erie Insurance Arena in the bottom of the 13th.
Starter Tommy Collier had a quality start on the bump for Erie as he went eight complete innings only allowing one run on five hits. Reliever Drew Verhagen would pick up his first win in an Erie uniform just a day after being sent down from Toledo. Luis Perez would take the loss for the Fisher Cats as he came on in relief, he drops to 1-1 on the year.
Drew Longley delivered a grand slam in the bottom of the 13th inning as the SeaWolves rallied for a 6-3 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
