PORTLAND, ME - Luis Cessa silenced the Sea Dogs over a season-best eight innings, guiding the Binghamton Mets to a 3-1 victory over Portland on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Cessa allowed one run to lead the B-Mets to their sixth straight win and help secure the team's third straight series victory.

For the second straight night the B-Mets cracked the scoreboard in their first turn at-bat. Brock Peterson capped a stretch of three consecutive hits off Portland starter Heri Quevedo by lining an RBI double into left-field, plating LJ Mazzilli with the game's first run. Michael Conforto sprinted home two pitches later when Quevedo skipped a wild pitch past Luis Martinez.

The same trio struck again in the third. Mazzilli started the frame with a walk and was chased home when Conforto blistered an RBI double off the right-field wall, his sixth two-bagger as a B-Met.

Portland scratched out their only run against Cessa in the third inning. Aneury Tavarez bounced a single up the middle, took second on a wild pitch and advanced a bag on a single. Carlos Asuaje brought him home to cut the deficit to two by bouncing into a fielder's choice to first.

The righty responded to Asuaje's run producing grounder by retiring 13 of the next 14 Sea Dogs he faced, a stretch snapped by David Chester's double in the seventh. Facing the potential tying run, Cessa put down Tavarez to end the inning, preserving Binghamton's two-run lead.

The B-Met starter capped his night with a scoreless eighth, working around a one-out walk to close his longest outing of the season. Paul Sewald notched a perfect ninth to earn his eleventh save.

Cessa (6-4) struck out five while lowering his ERA to 2.34, the fourth-best in the Eastern League. The righty has allowed just two runs in his last 27-2/3 innings. Quevedo (0-3) was touched for three runs on five hits over three innings in defeat.

POSTGAME NOTES: Cessa's outing was the longest start by a B-Met since Greg Peavey went 8.0 innings against the New Britain Rock Cats on August 28, 2014...the B-Mets have held opponents to two runs or fewer in six of their last seven wins...Binghamton has won seven straight games at Hadlock Field, dating back to last year's postseason run...Luis Cessa threw at least eight innings for the fourth time in his career
