
Thunder strike late to top Reading

The Fightin Phils (34-30) were looking to snatch the series away from the Trenton Thunder (36-29) on Wednesday night until two runs scored for the Thunder in the seventh inning to win 6-5. Zach Eflin tossed six quality innings in his first career start at Arm & Hammer Park.
Reading took a 1-0 lead off the Thunder in the top of the first inning as Brian Pointer walked with the bases loaded against Kyle Hanes to score JP Crawford. Cameron Perkins extended his hitting streak to 17 games in the top of the third inning as he hit a RBI single off Haynes to score Aaron Altherr and give the Fightin Phils a 2-0 lead.
Trenton scored four runs off Zach Eflin in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Thunder recorded four hits in the inning and were aided by two errors from third baseman Devin Lohman. Kelly Dugan cut the lead to 4-3 as he hit a RBI single off Haynes in the top of the fourth inning to score Logan Moore. Haynes left after the at-bat.
Dugan tied the game at 4-4 against Joel De La Cruz as he hit a RBI single to score Crawford who doubled in the previous at-bat. Lohman hit a sacrifice fly off Cesar Vargas in the top of the seventh inning to give Reading a 5-4 lead. Tony Renda hit a two-run double off Nefi Ogando (2-3) in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Trenton a 6-5 lead.
Zach Eflin allowed four runs (one earned) in six innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Ogando took the loss as he allowed two runs in one inning with two walks and one strikeout. Ryan O'Sullivan pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
The Fightin Phils wrap up their series with the Thunder on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:30 pm.
