
Gorillas unable to complete the comeback

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas were not able to complete their comeback over the Colorado Eagles, falling 4-2 Saturday night.
In their first meeting of the season, Colorado began the scoring with two goals in the second half of the first period. Forward Jason Delerume would squirt a backhand shot past Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown at the 14:30 mark. The second tally came on the power-play when forward Kevin Ulanski deflected the puck in the slot for his third goal on the season. After one period of play, Colorado 2 Amarillo 0.
The second period did not produce any goals, but Amarillo was in control. The Gorillas fired a single-period, season-high 17 shots on goal and leads the unofficial face off total 15-6. The period ended with newly acquired Gorilla forward Jason Beeman and Eagles defenseman Jason Beatty settling their differences (each went five minutes for fighting). At the end of two, Colorado 2 Amarillo 0.
Amarillo would begin their comeback after trailing 3-0 at the 7:22 mark. The CHL's leading goal scorer Joe Guenther would tack on two more markers to his total (11) pulling Amarillo within one goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. The Eagles would not allow Amarillo to complete the comeback, as Kevin Ulanski would punch home his second goal of the game (empty net) to give Colorado the lead for good. Final score Colorado 4 Amarillo 2.
Colorado earned their first road win of the season...both Gorilla newcomers Jason Beeman and Chris Cloud have fought once each over the last two games...Amarillo's Joe Guenther scored twice, giving him 11 on the year and the number two star of the game.
Amarillo begins a four-game rodeo road trip beginning Wednesday, November 11th versus the Colorado Eagles. The game will be broadcasted on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV starting at 7:55pm CST.
