Smith Sent Back To Bucks

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Saturday that Darryl Smith has been sent back down to the team by the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose. Smith will return to the Bucks Wednesday night (Nov 11th) when they host Rio Grande Valley at the LEC.

The 22-year-old Smith played in one game for the Moose, putting up two shots and posting a minus-one rating in Manitoba's 4-1 loss in Houston Thursday. Smith was scratched from Manitoba's 4-0 loss Friday night to Texas.

This was the second career AHL call-up for Smith, who played four games for Houston last season.

"We heard good things from the Manitoba coaches about Darryl," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He represented the Bucks well with Manitoba, and I know it was a good experience for him."

Smith has scored nine points (4-59) in six games for the Bucks this season, and sports a plus-two rating. Smith has two multi-goal games for Laredo, including one game-winning goal this season.

Smith attended NHL training camp with the Atlanta Thrashers, as well as AHL training camp with the Chicago Wolves before making his way back to Laredo for the start of the 2009-10 season.

Smith had a banner year for the Bucks in 2008-09. In addition to being named Rookie of the Year, Smith was the All-Star Game MVP, All-Rookie team, and Team MVP. Smith put up 70 points (36-3470) in the regular season, to go along with eight points 5-38) in five playoff games. Smith led all CHL rookies in scoring, while his 36 goals were second-most in the entire league.

On December 30th of last season Smith, a native of Thorold, Ontario, was called up to the AHL's Houston Aeros, the team he attended training camp with inOctober 2008.

The 5'10, 170-pound Smith took home All-Star Game MVP honors in January, when he scored a goal and added an assist as the CHL fell to the host Colorado Eagles 8-4.
