Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs fell to 0-5 on their home ice this season with a 4-1 loss to the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. Paired with last night's 4-1 defeat against the Jackalopes, the ‘Bugs have now lost back-to-back regular season games in regulation for the first time since March 7 and 8, 2008.

Dale Lupul scored Bossier-Shreveport's lone goal on the powerplay, but the Mudbugs were held to just seven shots on goal in the final two periods and were outshot 31-15 in the game. The loss puts the ‘Bugs at 3-5-0 on the season, while Odessa improves to a CHL-best 8-1-1 this year.

Kory Karlander got Odessa on the board first, following his own shot for a rebound goal that made it 1-0 at 6:23 of the first. The Mudbugs answered with a powerplay goal late in the period when Dale Lupul fired a long wrist shot into the top corner from the point to tie the game at one.

The Jackalopes quickly re-took the lead at 1:20 of the second period with a powerplay goal from Kenny Bernard. Odessa outshot the Mudbugs 14-4 in the frame, which ended with the visitors on top 2-1.

The Jacks kept coming in the third, outshooting the ‘Bugs 12-3 to shut down a comeback attempt. Sebastien Thinel scored early in the period and Alex Dunn added another tally later on to salt away Odessa's second-consecutive 4-1 victory.

Ken Carroll made 27 saves but suffered his third straight loss to start the season, while Juha Toivonen stopped 14 shots and improved to 5-0-0 this year. The ‘Bugs were 1 for 3 on the powerplay, while the Jackalopes finished 2 for 6.

Tomorrow afternoon the Mudbugs will finish off their first three-in-three weekend of the season against the Texas Brahmas at 4:05 pm at the NyTex Sports Centre. The Brahmas beat the Mudbugs 6-4 in Bossier City on October 30 in the first meeting of the year between the two rivals. The game will have no radio coverage but will be shown live online on CHL TV.
