
RiverKings Split Weekend Set in South Dakota

(Rapid City, SD) --- The Mississippi RiverKings garnered a split of their weekend series with the Rush in Rapid City Saturday night, defeating the Rush 3-1 after falling Friday night to Rapid City 5-1.
In Saturday's game the first period was scoreless with the RiverKings outshooting the Rush by a 6-5 margin. Mississippi broke through in the second period when Ryan Held scored his eighth goal of the season, converting an assist from Ryan Campbell at 10:43 for a 1-0 lead after two periods. Rapid City tied the game at 3:22 of the third period on a goal from David Grimson, but Bobby Chaumont provided the eventual game-winning goal at 9:09 on a feed from Louis Dumont and Matt Pierce for a 2-1 lead. Dumont completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with ten seconds remaining for the final score of 3-1. Neither team scored on the power play, as the RiverKings finished 0-for-3 and the Rush were 0-for-7. Rapid City outshot the RiverKings by a 33-29 margin. Ray Jean was the winning goaltender for the RiverKings with a 28-save performance. Danny Battochio was the losing goalie for the Rush with 26 saves. With the win, the RiverKings retained a one-point lead in the Northern Conference standings over second place Colorado with a 6-5-0 record.
Mississippi again played this game without the services of Head Coach Kevin Kaminski, who was called away on a family emergency late in the week. Next home action for the RiverKings will be back in Southaven on Tuesday night against the Tulsa Oilers. Game time is 7:05 PM.
