Amarillo Gorillas News Release
This weekend will be a busy time in the Bank One Jungle for the Amarillo Gorillas as they face off against the Wichita Thunder on Friday and the Laredo Bucks on Saturday. The Bucks are holding a strong first place lead in the CHL with 76 points. While the Gorillas are leading out the San Angelo Saints by three points for the first place spot in the Southwest Division.
The Wichita Thunder and the Amarillo Gorillas will go at it again for the forth time this season on Friday night. Amarillo currently leads the series two games to one. Friday night is Texas Lottery night and all fans that enter the Civic Center will receive a number that could allot them a chance to win a pick three-lottery ticket. During the first intermission fans can watch as their number races around the ice. If your number wins, then you win.
On Saturday night the Gorillas will face off against the premier team in the CHL, the Laredo Bucks. The Gorillas have only faced the Bucks one time this year and the Gorillas come out victoriously in a 3 - 2 shootout win. The game on Saturday will honor the nation's military, police, paramedics and firefighters who can pick up a ticket for just seven dollars at the Civic Center Box Office or at the Gorillas Hockey Office. (ID will need to be presented). The Gorillas will be auctioning off their American flag jerseys in the Ape Escape after the conclusion of the game.
The Gorillas are coming off of an even weekend with one loss to the New Mexico Scorpions and one win against the Odessa Jackalopes. In last Friday night's game against the Scorpions, both Derek Hahn and Shawn Roed contributed one goal apiece, however the Gorillas were unable to capitalize on them and lost 3 -2. Saturday night made for an exciting game as the Gorillas defeated the Jackalopes 4 - 1.
Ryan Shannon, Scott Wray, Dave Rattray, and Shawn Roed all netted one goal for the Gorillas, while Jason Maxwell contributed two assists. Tickets for Friday and Saturday night games can be purchased at the Gorillas Office located at 1934 Civic Circle, Civic Center Box Office; Panhandle Tickets Outlet located at Randy's Music Mart, WT Event Center and United Supermarkets.
