Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS – The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings are pleased to announce the signing of veteran forward Chad Grills to the active roster.

Grills, who played earlier this season with the Fort Worth Brahmas of the CHL, is in his 10th year of professional hockey. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Grills played several years for the Flint Generals of the UHL, where he won a championship with current RiverKing captain Don Parsons and head coach Mark Richards.

Through 486 regular season games played, Grills has accrued 351 points (128G, 223A) and 1,257 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 185-pound centerman also brings a wealth of playoff experience to the RiverKings roster, which will surely help Memphis's efforts to win a third consecutive President's Cup. Grills has played in 78 playoff games in his career, amassing 56 points (21G, 35A) and 240 penalty minutes in those contests.

The RiverKings also announced that forward Brian Tucker has been placed on the 14-day injured reserve list.

Currently the RiverKings sit alone in second place in the Northeast Division with a record of 26-19-3. Memphis's 55 points puts them in the lead for the first of two Northern Conference wild card berths, four points ahead of the New Mexico Scorpions and five points ahead of the Indianapolis Ice.

The RiverKings enter a crucial three-game homestand this weekend, as they host two division leaders and a rival in contention for a playoff berth. Memphis hosts Bossier-Shreveport this Friday, February 6th, at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, in a rematch of the RiverKings' last contest, a hard-fought game at Bossier-Shreveport which the RiverKings lost 2-1.

Following that contest, the RiverKings host the Colorado Eagles on Saturday, February 7th at 7:05 pm. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two franchises at the DCC, as the teams reprise their series in Colorado from earlier this year. The RiverKings went 1-1 in their two-game set versus the Eagles, winning the first contest 6-4 before falling 5-2 in the finale.

Then on Tuesday, February 10th, the RiverKings host Indianapolis at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center. The RiverKings defeated Indianapolis 7-3 in the last meeting between the two teams.
