Odessa Jackalopes News Release

The Jackalopes have been looking for a solid, physical defenseman for weeks. They found one hours before the Central Hockey League's trading deadline.

The Jacks have acquired JESSE SALTMARSH from the Oklahoma City Blazers, in exchange for (forward) DANNY WILLIAMS. Each player is in his first professional season.

Assistant Coach GREG GATTO (who will be the club's acting head coach this week with DON McKEE traveling to Europe with Team Canada) announced the trade Monday afternoon.

"Jesse Saltmarsh will give us size and a very solid physical presence," Gatto said. "He'll hit eerything in sight and give us more of the same kind of energy we've received from (recently acquired) BEN GOREWICH and JEFF ALCOMBRACK. Jesse also gives us five defensemen again, and that's critical for us right now."

The Jacks were dealt a tough blow when defenseman JAROSLAV KERESTES (YAHR-oh-slawv kuh-RESS-teez) was forced to leave to club due to family concerns. He returned home to Presov, Slovakia, to be with his father, whose health is failing. Jaroslav was granted an emergency leave of absence, and there is no timetable for his return.

Saltmarsh is driving from Oklahoma City tonight (Monday) and is expected arrive in time to skate with the Jacks Tuesday morning and to be in the line-up Tuesday night when the Jacks play at San Angelo.

The 23-year-old Massachusetts native played four seasons at Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, Connecticut) before turning pro this season.

Ironically, Danny Williams scored a goal in each of what would be his final two games as a Jackalope. He joins an Oklahoma City Blazers team that, like the Jacks, is fighting for a playoff spot.
