Kings host Golden Gloves

February 3, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

The Coliseum will host the Golden Gloves boxing tournament. We are thinking about having a media round too (not with real gloves) so you can join in the fun! Here are the details...

Proceeds will go to help the Optimist Boys & Girls Club too. There will be divisions full of fighters spanning from high school, college and a macho man for those new to boxing. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lubbock Cotton Kings front offices or at any Select-a-seat location.

The gloves start swinging at 7 p.m. February 19th, 20th and 21st. Seats start at eight dollars for general admission and three-day passes are available.

Misc.: Kings step up Mac-A-Roni Fund with the passing away of Brett Wallrath.

Here is a clip of Paul's letter to the fans. So far, we have raised over $2,000 and the Kings are donating $.50 to the fund for each ticket sold to "Miracle." We also have an online pledge database set up where fans can donate money for each shot in selected Cotton Kings games.

I would like you to help Dave MacIntyre and myself take care of the Wallrath family. Brett – the loving husband and father of one child and one on the way – was hit and eventually killed by a car on the loop a few months ago.

Mr. Wallrath owned his own landscaping business which is no longer in operation to benefit his family financially. In steps the Mac-a-Roni Fund!

We are currently taking donations at all home games (at the booster club table) and all Bank of America locations. We are also planning on picking a few more nights during the year and getting groups to pledge a small amount for the number of shots that the Kings have on the scoreboard. Red is also going to incorporate the internet so that fans can pledge over the net.

All of the money goes to the Wallrath family to help put food on the table, cover medical expenses and assist the family on their newest addition.
