Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, TX â The Corpus Christi Rayz have been a very busy team lately off the ice. Therefore, it should be of no surprise that the Rayz did not let the February 2nd Central Hockey League trading deadline go by without making a move. The Rayz acquired defenseman Clint Way from the Austin Ice Bats in exchange for defenseman Clint Way, Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Pat Dunn announced Monday afternoon.
Way, 24, has appeared in 42 games this season for Austin and tallied three assists and 45 penalty minutes. The third year pro from Edmonton, Alberta is in his first season in the CHL after playing for the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL for two seasons. Prior to turning professional, Way played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Michigan Tech.
Brandvold, 27, spent parts of each of the last two seasons in Corpus Christi. This year he has a goal and three assists in 32 games, but had not played in two weeks after being placed on injured reserve.
The addition of Way gives the Rayz five defensemen, pending the health of All-Star defenseman Mike Tilson who is day to day after taking a punch behind the play last Wednesday night from Bobby Chad Mitchell of the Laredo Bucks. The Rayz also placed veteran forward Dan Shermerhorn on injured reserve last week after he injured his thumb, late in the third period of Thursday night's 5-1 win over Austin.
Clint Way will join the team and make his Rayz debut in their next game, Thursday night when the Rayz host the Lubbock Cotton Kings. The Rayz have guaranteed a victory, and are offering each ticket holder to Thursday night's game a free ticket should they lose the game. Tickets are still available for Thursday night's guaranteed win. For more information, call 814-PUCK or visit the Rayz online at www.ccrayz.com.
