Gorillas gain point in overtime

Odessa, TX - Despite falling 4-3 in overtime to the Odessa Jackalopes, the Amarillo Gorillas gained ground on the fifth seeded Corpus Christi IceRays who fell in regulation Friday night.

Amarillo earned the game's first tally at the 1:40 mark of the first after Odessa goaltender Juha Toivonen turned over the puck in front of his net to Gorillas forward David Nimmo, who scored his 22nd goal on the year. The Jackalopes battled back on their first power-play opportunity seven minutes later. Forward Kory Karlander hammered home his 18th marker of the season as the teams went into the first intermission tied at 1.

After two Sebastien Thinel goals (one a penalty shot) 6:07 into the second period, Gorillas forward Joe Guenther and David Nimmo fired back for Amarillo. Guenther's tally was 21 seconds after Thinel's penalty shot goal, while Nimmo's goal came at the 10:28 mark after nifty stick work in tight versus Toivonen. Amarillo 3 Odessa 3 after two periods of play.

The teams did not score in the third period and the game went to overtime. While on the power-play, Philippe Plante tipped his shot past Amarillo netminder Mike Brown for his fourth game-winning goal of the season. Final score in overtime, Odessa 4 Amarillo 3.

David Nimmo has 5 goals over his last 4 road games...With a goal and an assist, Joe Guenther has 5 points over his last 3 contests...Mike Brown made 35 saves on 39 Jackalopes shots.

Amarillo will take the ice again tomorrow, February 27th at the Odessa Jackalopes. The game broadcast will start at 6:55pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV.
