Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas - The playoff-bound Allen Americans lost a close game to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 at the Allen Event Center in the third game of a four-in-five day stretch. After the Mudbugs took a 3-0 lead, the Americans battled back to tie the contest with three straight goals. Allen's record stands at 36-13-4 (76 points).
Looking stylish in their pink jerseys, the Americans played a solid first period against the Mudbugs. The club outshot the visiting team eight to four in 20 minutes of play that featured end-to-end hockey and ended scoreless.
Bossier-Shreveport scored three successive goals to open the second period. The Mudbugs had tallies from Travis Clayton, Joe Blaznek and Brett Smith within a span of 1:23. Down 3-0, the Americans regrouped to finish the period behind by only one. Allen found the back of the net with tallies from Nathan O'Nabigon and Christian Gaudet. O'Nabigon has registered a goal in each of the last four games.
Looking to even the 3-2 score, the Americans jumped out of the gates in the final period. Justin Bowers ignited the crowd when he lit the lamp after two minutes of play. The 3-3 deadlock was broken with 3:01 remaining in the game when Bossier-Shreveport's Justin Aikins redirected a shot from Tyrel Lucas.
With the game down to the wire, the crowd rose to its feet to support the Americans' last effort. Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins pulled netminder Alexandre Vincent to put the extra attacker on the ice. The Americans swarmed the Bossier-Shreveport cage but could not convert any opportunities.
Vincent made 16 saves tonight.
Erik Adams returned to the lineup tonight after taking a brief leave of absence. He finished the night +1.
The players wore pink specialty jerseys as part of the "Pink in the Rink" night. The effort with Susan G. Komen for the Cure aims to raise awareness about breast cancer. The proceeds from the live jersey auction following tonight's matchup benefited Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
