Bucks Sting Bees, Set Up Showdown With Texas Saturday

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 Friday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks improve to 26-18-9 (61 points) and remain two points back of Texas for third place in the Southern Conference thanks to the Brahmas win over Corpus Christi. The Bucks host the Brahmas Saturday night.

Pier Pelletier won his fourth straight decision in net for the Bucks as he stopped 23 of 25 shots. Pelletier has beaten the Bees four straight times as he improves to 4-4-1 on the season.

The Bucks (14-6-6) took an early lead over the Bees to lead 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

After coming up empty of three power-play attempts Eric Giosa banged in a rebound right in front of the Bees net with 3:55 left in the opening period. The strike was Giosa's 10th of the season and his first since February 9th.

The Bucks improve to 17-4-4 when scoring first this season.

Laredo outshot Rio 13-6 in the first period as they improved to 10-0-3 this season against the Killer Bees (4-0-3 in Laredo).

The Killer Bees would tie the game at 1-1 just 2:10 into the second when Grant Goecker-Zoellar scored on a slap shot from the top of the right circle. Goeckner-Zoellar has 23 tallies on the campaign.

The Bucks would take a 2-1 lead 6:10 into the second when Neil Trimm hammered in a long rebound from the left side the crease to score his 13th of the season and third in his last two games.

Laredo would increase their lead to 3-1 just 26 seconds later when Sylvain Deschatelets scored off of the face-off from the right circle. Deschatalets picked up three assists in his Bucks debut in Allen the night before.

Rio would cut the Laredo lead to 3-2 with just one minute left in the second when Stacey Bauman rifled in slap shot from the top of the left circle. Bauman has five goals this season.

Laredo outshot Rio 10-7 in the second period.

The Bucks killed off a five-on-three power-play for 1:06 with under eight minutes left in the third to keep their lead at 3-2.

The Bees pulled goaltender Wylie Rogers for the final 55 seconds of the game to try and tie it but the Bucks hung on for the win. Rogers stopped 27 of 30 shots to suffer the loss.

Laredo is now 19-0-3 when leading after two periods this season.
