Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
ALLEN, TX - Justin Aikins scored with just 3:01 remaining to break a 3-3 tie and propel the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 4-3 victory over the Allen Americans Friday night at the Allen Events Center. The victory helped the Mudbugs match their longest winning streak of the season at six straight games and improve to 31-17-4 this season.
Aikins' goal put Bossier-Shreveport back on top after Allen had rallied from 3-0 down to tie the game. Joe Blaznek had a goal and an assist, while Travis Clayton and Brett Smith also lit the lamp for the Mudbugs in their first win over the Americans.
After the teams played to a scoreless first period, Bossier-Shreveport surged ahead early in the second with a three-goal outburst in a span of just 1:22. Travis Clayton started the scoring with a powerplay goal at 3:21, jamming home a centering feed from Jeff Kyrzakos to put the âBugs on top. Joe Blaznek then one-timed a great feed from Joe Ori into the top corner for his team-leading 20th goal of the season. Only 29 seconds later, Brett Smith flew down right wing and smoked a slapshot past Alexandre Vincent on the stick side to extend the advantage to 3-0.
The Americans turned it around later in the second though, scoring twice in just over two minutes to get back within a goal. Nathan O'Nabigon tallied first for Allen when his centering pass bounced off a Mudbug and into the net. Christian Gaudet then followed that up to get the Americans back within one at 3-2 after two periods.
Justin Bowers tied it up early in the third, redirecting a Tyler Wooddisse shot past DeCaro at 2:05. Both teams then tightened up defensively and neither saw many scoring chances for most of the period. With time running low in regulation, Tyrel Lucas' shot from the right side caromed off a defender's stick and right to Aikins, who redirected it past Vincent to put the âBugs on top to stay.
John DeCaro made 24 saves on the way to his 18th win of the year as the Mudbugs were outshot 27-20. Alexandre Vincent stopped 16 shots in goal for the Americans. Bossier-Shreveport converted 1 of 2 powerplay chances while Allen was 0 for 3.
This weekend's three-in-three road trip will now shift to Tulsa, where the âBugs will face the Oilers for Saturday and Sunday before returning home. Saturday night's game is set for a 7:35 pm opening faceoff with pregame coverage starting at 7:15 on News Radio 710 AM KEEL. The game will also be shown live online on CHL TV.
