Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, MI - A new Dow Diamond record 6,057 fans witnessed a dramatic comeback, extra innings win for the Great Lakes Loons Friday night over the Lansing Lugnuts, 5-3.

With the score tied at three in the 12th, Matt Wallach doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Dee Gordon followed and tried to bunt Wallach over to third, but was unsuccessful. But with the count full, Gordon turned on a Dustin Antolin offering and pounded it over the wall in right-center for a two-run, game-winning home run.

The home run was just Gordon's second of the year and was his fourth hit of the game.

The Loons had to battle from behind in the contest. They scored the game's first run in the fifth on a single by Jaime Pedroza. But Lansing responded with a three-run home run by AJ Jimenez, his first of the year, to take a 3-1 lead in the seventh.

Trailing by two in the ninth, the Loons took advantage of some sloppy Lugnut defense. With a runner at first and one out, Alfredo Silverio singled to right, but the ball scooted past right fielder Johermyn Chavez for a two base error allowing pinch runner Parker Dalton to score. Then with Silverio at third, pinch hitter Wallach singled past a drawn-in infield to tie the score at three.

Robert Boothe (1-3) pitched a 1-2-3 12th for his first win of the year. Nathan Eovaldi started and threw five shutout innings, striking out a career high seven. Luis Garcia added three scoreless relief innings.

The crowd of 6,057 established a new ballpark high, surpassing the 5,887 in attendance on June 20.

The Loons begin a 10-game roadtrip on Independence Day in Fort Wayne for the first game of a four-game series against the first-place TinCaps, who have the best record in Minor League Baseball (52-26). Game time is 7:05pm - a change from the originally stated game time - and will be carried in Mid-Michigan on ESPN 100.9-FM. Right-hander JonMichael Redding (9-3, 4.34 ERA) will start for the Loons against right-hander Anthony Bass (7-3, 1.95), who has the league's lowest ERA.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
