TinCaps Have Minors' Best Record

Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps have continued their hot play in the second half of the season and now hold the best record in the full-season minor leagues at 51-26. The TinCaps, first-half division champions, are 6-1 in the second half as they prepare to return to Parkview Field for an Independence Day Weekend series.

"We tip our hats to the San Diego Padres' organization for this team's performance," TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. "Not only are these players extremely talented; they also play exciting, hard-nosed baseball and put themselves in position to win each and every night."

Since the beginning of June, the TinCaps are 20-7. The spurt pushed them past Akron (Double-A Cleveland Indians) and Birmingham (Double-A Chicago White Sox). Both clubs are 52-27 for a .658 winning percentage, just behind the TinCaps' .662 clip.

The TinCaps finish a four-game road series tonight against the Dayton Dragons. They return to Parkview Field Saturday at 7:05pm to open four-game series against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers). A special Independence Day post-game fireworks spectacular is on tap for the series opener. The TinCaps went just 3-5 against the Loons in the first half, but both teams have undergone substantial changes since the last time they met.
