
Smith dominates in 5-1 win over Snappers

Kernels starter Will Smith (6-3) struck out six, allowed two hits and an unearned run over seven innings in a 5-1 Kernels win over the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field in Beloit on Thursday night. Five Kernels: Tyson Auer, Alexi Amarista, Jon Townsend, Dwayne Bailey and Darwin Perez, had two hits as the Kernels pounded out 13 in the game.
Angel Castillo went 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI and Gabe Jacobo was 1-5 with a double and RBI. Roberto Lopez went 1-2, with two walks, was hit by a pitch and homered, his eighth of the year. Matt Shoemaker and Kevin Nabors combined for two scoreless innings out of the bullpen as they both struck out and walked two batters.
Beloit starter Daniel Osterbrock (4-6) allowed three runs on 10 hits, walked three and struck out five over five innings. James Beresford was 1-4 with a double and RBI and Nate Hanson was 1-3. The win improves the Kernels second half record to 5-2 and 45-32 overall while Beloit drops to 2-5, 29-48 overall.
