Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Dayton, OH - The Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons, 5-3, Friday at Fifth Third Field. For the fourth straight game, the TinCaps took an early 3-0 lead and for the third straight night, RHP Brad Brach pitched a scoreless 9th inning to pick up a save.

Eight of the TinCaps' nine starting hitters had base hits. Fort Wayne jumped out in the top of the 3rd when Blake Tekotte drilled a Matt Fairel pitch over the right-field wall for his 10th home run of the year, a solo shot. Drew Cumberland was hit by a pitch and Daniel Robertson followed with a single to put runners at the corners with one out. A pair of wild pitches plated Cumberland and moved Robertson to third, then Allan Dykstra pounded an RBI single to left to make it 3-0.

Dayton chipped into the margin in the bottom of the 3rd when Fort Wayne native Kyle Day drew a bases-loaded walk, but RHP Erik Davis induced an inning-ending popout from Cody Puckett to end the inning. In the top of the 6th, Cole Figueroa punched a leadoff double to left-center, went to third on a flyout and scored on Kevin Hansen's infield single, pushing the lead to 4-1.

The Dragons tightened the game up in the 7th. A leadoff walk to Kevin Coddington and a one-out double by Jordan Wideman put runners at second and third with one out.

Kevyn Feiner legged out a grounder to the right side for an RBI single and the throw was errant, allowing both runners to score and making it a 4-3 game. But with the tying run on base, RHP Alexis Lara came in from the bullpen and started a strikeout-throwout double play with Robert Lara to quell the rally.

Fort Wayne tacked on an insurance run in the 8th when Tekotte drew a two-out walk and Cumberland drilled a double to the wall in right to make it 5-3.

Brach entered the game in the 9th for the third straight night and worked a 1-2-3 inning for his 20th save. Five of the saves have come against Dayton; he has worked 10 shutout innings against the Dragons.

Davis (7-3) grabbed the win, allowing just one run in five innings. Fairel (5-4) took the loss, his third against Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps upped their record to 52-26 overall, 7-1 in the second half. They are now 14- 1 against the Dragons this season. Dayton fell to 31-47, 3-5 in the half.

The TinCaps return to Parkview Field on Saturday for a four-game series against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers). Fort Wayne RHP Anthony Bass (7-3) makes the start opposite Loons RHP JonMichael Redding (9-3) in a 7:05pm first pitch.
