Gonzalez Dominates, 'Dogs Twirl Second Straight Shutout

LINCOLN - Jino Gonzalez dazzled for seven innings as the Saltdogs blanked Fargo-Moorhead 5-0 for the second straight night to pull above .500 at Haymarket Park Thursday night.

Gonzalez (4-0) pitched seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a season-high eight to earn the victory. The RedHawks had base runners in just two innings on the night.

Joe Ramos and Jeff Howell each contributed with solo home runs, to lead off the third and fourth, respectively.

Saltdogs pitching allowed just one run over the final 31 innings of the series, and the defense did not commit an error during the four-game set.

Trevor Longfellow (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings in his professional debut.

Garrett Sherrill tossed two perfect frames in relief to end the contest.

Lincoln pulled above .500 for the first time in 2011 and is now just five games out of first place in the Central division.

The Saltdogs open a weekend series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the T-Bones down in Kansas City. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
