SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Central Division leading Gary SouthShore RailCats dropped their fourth consecutive game to the Sioux City Explorers, suffering a 9-1 defeat on Thursday night.

Ryan Priddy handed Sioux City a 1-0 lead with a two-out, two-strike, solo homer in the bottom of the second off RailCat starter Scott Shaw. The RailCats immediately responded in the top of the third. Mike Valadez recorded the first hit of the night with a sharp single up the middle with one out. Valadez stole second and scored on a single from Adam Klein.

The X's also came up with a quick response, scoring three times in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 4-1. Kent Sakamoto posted a two-run double and scored moments later on an RBI single from Ray Serrano. Sioux City continued to build the lead with three more runs in the fourth to push the advantage to 7-1. The lead ballooned to 9-1 with two more runs in the sixth.

Sioux City starter Nick Schumacher pitched into the ninth, limiting the RailCats to just the one run on seven hits in 8.1 innings. Valadez finished with two hits in the contest along with Massaro for the RailCats. Valadez put together one of the best at bats of the year in the top of the ninth, seeing 14 pitches before succumbing for the final out. Shaw pitched six innings to suffer the loss for the RailCats.

The RailCats (47-36), who continue to lead the Central Division by two games over the Wichita Wingnuts with 17 contests left in the year, dropped nine straight to Sioux City including seven in a row at Lewis & Clark Park to end the season series. The four game losing streak is the longest of the season.

The RailCats return home on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. to open a six-game series with the Shreveport-Bossier Captains, who played at home tonight. LHP Alain Quijano (5-4, 5.54) receives the ball for the RailCats against RHP Robert Bono (0-1, 21.60). Highlights of the homestand include Superhero/Villain Night with fireworks on Friday, toothbrush holder giveaway on Saturday, a Dollar Monday, and a visit from competitive eating legend Takeru Kobayashi on Wendesday.
