
X's Make It Three Straight Over Railcats

Sioux City------In a wild finish at Lewis and Clark Park Wednesday, the Explorers defeated Gary Southshore 10-9 to take the first three games of the series.
It was the eighth straight win for Sioux City over the RailCats. In the top of the ninth inning with two outs, Explorers leftfielder T.J. Bohn threw out Kyle Haines at the plate on a single by Chris Carrara to preserve the victory for the Explorers as Ray Serrano blocked the plate keeping Haines from scoring. It was a contest that went back and forth as Gary Southshore took a 2-0 lead in the first inning only to have the Explorers score six runs in the second as 11 batters came to the plate in the inning.
With the Explorers leading 8-5 after five innings, Gary Southshore scored four runs in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead. Ray Serrano led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his 11th home run of the season to tie the game at 9-9. Then in the seventh with two outs, Kent Sakamoto singled to left field to score Mike Murphy with what proved to be the winning run.
The Explorers banged out 17 hits in the win with Wally Backman, Jr, Mike Murphy and Bohn all getting three hits with Backman also driving in four runs. Of the 17 hits, all were singles except the home run by Serrano. Eddy Delacruz picked up the win in relief while Emiliano Fruto recorded his tenth save of the year for the Explorers.
The X's and Gary Southshore will close out the four-game series TONIGHT at Lewis and Clark Park with game time 7:05.
