Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Looking for their third win in a row, the Snappers were treated with a walk-off victory in extra innings of tonight's game. On fireworks night at Pohlman Field, Michael Gonzales provided the spark that the Snappers needed in the bottom of the tenth inning. Gonzales came up to bat with two on and two-out and delivered a game-winning single to left field as Wang-Wei Lin scored from second base to give the Snappers the victory.
The Beloit Snappers (31-30) trailed early in the game 2-0 after a passed ball allowed Anthony Gallas to score and a RBI double later in the inning by Ronny Rodriguez. It didn't take long for the Snappers to cut the Captain's lead in half as Jario Perez hit his first home run as a Snapper in the bottom of that fourth inning making the game 2-1.
Snappers all-star starting pitcher Adrian Salcedo (5-3, 3.10 ERA) would then settle into a groove and not give up another run as he went a Snappers season-long eight innings pitched. He was able to get out of a few jams with runners on base to keep the Captains at two runs. Salcedo ended with seven strikeouts on the night.
The Captains' starting pitcher Jordan Cooper (1-2, 3.90 ERA) made his 4th start of the year, pitched solid against the Snappers. Cooper went 5 2/3 innings fanning four batters and allowing only one run. It was the Captains bullpen that the Snappers roughed up a bit as Nickolas Sarianides (3.38 ERA) for a run when Daniel Santana had an RBI single scoring Lance Ray in the 7th inning. Rob Bryson would be the victim of Michael Gonzales' late inning heroics giving him his first loss of the year.
For the Captains (27-34), Rodriguez finished the night 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Captain's leading hitter Anthony Gallas was held hitless on the night (0-for-4) dropping his team-leading average down to .320, but did score a run for the Captains.
The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game" goes to designated hitter Michael Gonzales has he gave the Snappers their first walk-off hit of the year and put the Snappers above .500 on the year at 31-30. Gonzales was 0-for-4 walking up to bat in the 10th inning with a runner in scoring position, but his only hit of the game is exactly what the fans will remember providing an exciting win for fans on a Snappers fireworks night.
