Goldeyes Add Rookie Outfielder Carpenter

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced the signing today of rookie outfielder Ridge Carpenter.

Carpenter, 22, recently completed his senior season at Cal State Northridge, where he hit .304 with 10 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 21 RBI in 55 games. He also showed his speed with four triples and 16 stolen bases with the Matadors.

A product of Honolulu, Hawaii, Carpenter was among Baseball America's top 10 prospects playing in the Hawaiian Collegiate League last summer after he hit .274 with five doubles, six triples and stole 30 bases on 31 attempts. He was a junior college All-American in 2009 with Hartnell Junior College when he batted .399.

Carpenter was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 32nd Round of the 2007 MLB amateur draft out of high school, but did not sign.

The Goldeyes have 21 players on their active roster, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.

Winnipeg begins a three-game series in Kansas City against the T-Bones tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
