Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Tx.---Richard Salazar (4-2) allowed just one run in six innings, Andres Rodriguez hit his fifth home run of the year, and Brian Peterson went 3-for-4 with a ninth-inning triple as the Captains beat Grand Prairie 6-1 at QuikTrip Park Tuesday night, putting an end to their three-game losing streak.

Peterson's triple set the stage for a three-run ninth that allowed the Captains to pull away. The Shreveport-Bossier catcher is now hitting .583 (20-for-36) over his last 11 games. Alex Cowart, who had a 2-for-4 night himself, scored Peterson with a single off AirHogs reliever Jon Fulton to make it a 4-1 lead. Following a Mike Provencher single and a Robert Perry fly out, Bryan Sabatella knocked in Cowart with a single for the fifth run. A Rodriguez sacrifice fly to center would give the Captains the 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Captains reliever Jake McCarter got two outs but also walked the bases loaded. Closer Dan Griffin came in with the bases loaded and needed just one pitch to get right fielder Greg Porter to fly out to Perry in center to end the game.

Rodriguez's two-run homer in the third gave the Captains a 2-1 lead and they would never trail again. The line drive shot to left field was his fifth of the year, tying him with Uriak Marquez and Provencher for the team lead. The Captains made it 3-1 in the fifth on a Joe Urtuzuastegui RBI single, scoring Sabatella, who had reached on an error.

Salazar gave up nine hits and one run in six innings, walking one and striking out three. He has allowed just seven runs in his last 20 innings pitched and is 3-0 in his last three starts. Grand Prairie starter David Nathanson (0-3) pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out five.

Perry went 3-for-5 for Shreveport-Bossier. Grand Prairie's Cesar Nicolas was 3-for-4 in the losing effort. Shortstop Jake Taylor and third baseman Guillermo Martinez both went 2-for-3 for the AirHogs. Martinez had Grand Prairie's only RBI, scoring catcher Chris McMurray with a second-inning single.

Shreveport-Bossier improves to 23-20 with the win, while the AirHogs fall to 30-14. The Captains trail Grand Prairie by 6.5 games in the American Association South Division. The two teams play game three of their four-game set Wednesday, June 29 when Osvaldo Rodriguez (3-1, 5.53) takes the mound for the Captains against Grand Prairie's John Brownell (6-1, 3.60). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
