Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats continued an offensive surge on the road by posting 11 hits in a 9-6 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday night, the third consecutive win.

Adam Klein led off the game with a single to left against Lincoln starter Brett Harker, who pitched for Schaumburg last year. Brad Boyer coaxed a one out walk on four pitches and Cristian Guerrero continued his hot strong, doubling home Klein with a gap shot to the wall in left-center.

Lincoln evened the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. Vance Albitz opened the frame with a single, moved to second on an errant pickoff, third on a flyout, and scored as Blake Gailen lifted a sacrifice fly to right. The Saltdogs scored twice in the fourth to open a 3-1 lead. Maikel Jova doubled to left with one away and Jorge Cortes was intentionally walked. Pat Trettel lined a 1-2 offering from starter Scott Shaw over the head of Klein in left to put Lincoln ahead. A wild pitch extended the lead.

Harker was forced to leave the game with an injury prior to the fifth inning. Reliever Steve Junker allowed a pair of runs to tie the game after walking the first two batters of the frame. Massaro knocked home a run with a groundout and Boyer evened the game with an infield single. The onslaught continued in the sixth. Klein, who matched a franchise record by scoring four runs in the game, put the ‘Cats ahead with an infield single and Massaro padded the lead with a two-run single to right. Guerrero, who drove in three more runs in the game, finished the scoring by drawing a bases loaded walk as the RailCats led 7-3.

Gavin Dickey's bases loaded triple to the wall in center chased Shaw from the contest in the seventh. Shaw pitched 6.2 innings in winning his third consecutive start, overcoming five walks. The right-hander allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits. James Baker entered and trapped Dickey at third with a strikeout of Phil Hawke. The RailCats provided some insurance in the eighth with two runs as Boyer and Guerrero each drove home another.

The RailCats (26-19) have 46 hits and 32 runs over the three game win streak and are seven games over the .500 mark for the first time this season. In addition to scoring four runs, Klein registered four hits while Massaro and Chris Carrara added two apiece. The RailCats finished with 11 hits in the contest. Lincoln had three ejections in the contest, committed three errors, and suffered their fifth straight defeat.
