Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the El Paso Diablos 9-0 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.
All nine of the Wingnuts' starters had at least one hit, while Ryan Hinson worked seven shutout innings to lead Wichita's second consecutive shutout.
For a second straight night, the Wingnuts struck in the bottom of the third to break a scoreless tie. With runners on first and second and two outs, Ryan Patterson doubled onto the warning track in left-center field to give Wichita a 2-0 lead.
The Wingnuts scored three more in the fourth to expand their lead. Juan Richardson drew a leadoff walk and moved to second when Jorge Delgado reached on an infield single to shortstop. Josh Workman followed with a groundball double down the right field line that bounced over the first base bag before veering into the Diablos' bullpen. Richardson scored on the play to make it 3-0. Edwin Bellorin singled home Delgado on a line drive to shallow left-center. Josh Horn finished the rally with an RBI single through the right side that plated Workman.
Patterson led off the fifth with a line drive solo home run that just cleared the fence down the left field line. Workman and Horn added RBI hits later in the inning to carve out an 8-0 advantage.
Wichita's final run came in the seventh on a two-out, RBI single down the right field line from Jose Duran. Duran has now hit safely in 10 games in a row.
Hinson allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter during his seven innings. Hinson struck out six en route to his sixth win of the season. Hinson is now 5-0 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in five starts.
Adam Rowe took the loss for El Paso, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in four-plus innings. Rowe walked two and struck out one.
Brandon Mathes and Michael Cotter each turned in a scoreless inning in relief of Hinson. It marked the third time in team history the Wingnuts have pitched back-to-back shutouts. The Wingnuts have combined for 21 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to Sunday's game at St. Paul.
The series continues on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Chad Sherman takes the mound against right-hander Jae Hun Jung. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
