
Gohara Fans 10 as Stripers Beat RailRiders

MOOSIC, PA - Behind an 11-hit attack and a 10-strikeout performance from Luiz Gohara, the Gwinnett Stripers defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the three-game series at PNC Field.
With the victory, the Stripers completed a 4-2 season series win over the RailRiders despite finishing the road trip at 2-4.
Gohara (W, 2-4) set a season high with 10 strikeouts over 5.2 dominant innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits. He gave up a solo home run to Zack Zehner (7) in the bottom of the second as Scranton took a 1-0 lead but went on to retire the next 10 batters in a row.
The Stripers took the lead with a four-run top of the third against left-hander Nestor Cortes. Phil Gosselin led off with a ground-rule double, moved to third on a single by Lane Adams and scored the tying run on a single to right by Jonathan Morales. After a sacrifice bunt by Luis Marte moved runners to second and third, Danny Santana blasted a three-run homer (13) to right for a 4-1 lead.
Another RBI single by Morales in the top of the fourth pushed the lead to 5-1, and Gosselin blasted a two-run homer (4) off Cortes in the sixth to make it 7-1.
Scranton's L.J. Mazzilli drilled a two-run homer (6) to right off Gohara in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-3.
Miguel Socolovich replaced Gohara with a runner on and two outs in the sixth and went 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout. Evan Phillips tossed a scoreless eighth with one hit and one strikeout, and Jacob Webb surrendered a solo homer to Rey Navarro (9) in the ninth before finishing the game.
For the RailRiders, Cortes (L, 4-5) worked 7.0 innings with eight hits, seven earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Brody Koerner and J.P. Feyereisen combined on 2.0 scoreless, three-hit innings in relief.
At the plate for Gwinnett, Gosselin had a season-high four hits, going 4-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBIs. Morales was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Santana was 1-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs.
Scranton (55-48) was led offensively by Mazzilli, who was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs.
The Gwinnett Stripers (49-57) return to Coolray Field on Monday night to begin a seven-game homestand. Game one of a four-game series against the Durham Bulls begins at 7:05 p.m. The Stripers have not announced a starting pitcher, while the Bulls will start right-hander Forrest Snow (5-5, 3.97 ERA). Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 and 93.5 FM "The Other Side of the River" beginning at 6:35 p.m.
