
Dominguez Powers Chiefs Past Bulls Sunday Night for Series Win

Durham, NC - The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Durham Bulls, 7-3, Sunday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Chris Dominguez homered and drove in five runs in the game, and Tuffy Gosewisch added two RBI in the win. The Chiefs won two of three games in the series against the first-place Bulls, and four of six in the season series.
Syracuse (43-63) grabbed the lead in the fourth inning. Yadiel Hernandez doubled off Andrew Moore to start the inning. Tuffy Gosewisch followed with a two-out double to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Alejandro De Aza then singled and two batters later, Dominguez unloaded on a three-run home run over the 32-foot high fence in left field to five the Chiefs a 4-0 lead.
Durham (60-45) answered in the bottom of the fourth inning. Former Chief Brandon Snyder hit a two-run home run off Carlos Torres to trim the deficit to 4-2.
The Bulls added a run in the fifth. Mac James singled off Koda Glover, and Andrew Velazquez drove him in a batter later on an RBI double to cut the score to 4-3.
The game went into a rain delay after the end of the fifth inning and after an delay of two hours and 12 minutes, the game restarted at 8:45 in the top of the sixth inning.
Syracuse extended its lead in the eighth off Durham reliever Kyle Bird. With one out, Gosewisch struck out swinging but reached first base on a wild pitch on after swinging at strike three. De Aza then walked to put runners on first and second. Two batters later, Dominguez doubled to center field, scoring Gosewisch to make it a 5-3 game.
The Chiefs scored twice more in the ninth against Bulls relief pitcher Hoby Milner. Milner hit Falu with a pitch to begin the inning. Hernandez then reached base on a fielding error. Marmolejos followed with a single that loaded the bases. Gosewisch then picked up his second RBI of the game with a single that scored Falu and kept the bases packed as Syracuse took a 6-3 advantage. De Aza struck out and Gonzalez grounded into a fielder's choice where Hernandez was out at home, but Marmolejos moved to third, Gosewisch went to second, and Gonzalez was safe at first. Dominguez followed with a single to left field that brought home Marmolejos for a 7-3 Chiefs lead. That RBI was the fifth of the game for Dominguez and his tenth RBI in the three-game series against the Bulls.
The Chiefs return home to open a four-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox starting Monday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Austin Voth is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite RHP Justin Haley for Pawtucket.
