From the Notes
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians used a three-run double by Jacob Stallings in the seventh inning to stampede past the Bisons for a third straight game, winning 6-4 to seal the series win with two games to play. The Tribe built a 2-0 advantage after two innings, the second run coming on Ryan Lavarnway's seventh long ball of the season, a 423-foot shot to right-center. Buffalo then posted consecutive two-run frames against Mitch Keller to take a 4-3 lead. Indy's bullpen combo of Montana DuRapau (W, 3.0ip, 1h, 4k) and Tanner Anderson (S, 1.0ip) shut down the Bisons over the final four frames.
TANNER TERRIFIC: Tanner Anderson tossed a five-pitch, 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his fifth save in seven chances in last night's 6-4 comeback win. Anderson has not allowed an earned run in each of his last nine appearances dating back to June 19, spanning 10.1 innings pitched. He has yielded just nine baserunners during that stretch (7 hits, 1 walk, 1 HBP). He has held right-handed batters to a miniscule .231 average this season (LHB at .296).
LEADING OFF: Kevin Newman finished with two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base in last night's win, giving him 30 multi-hit games this season. The Tribe are 21-9 when he records two or more hits in a game. He leads the IL with 66 runs scored and 25 stolen bases and also ranks among league leaders in average (9th, .291), hits (T-3rd, 109) and doubles (T-5th, 24).
WALK THIS WAY: Christopher Bostick walked three times last night, marking the third three-walk game of his career and first since Aug. 15, 2014 with High-A Myrtle Beach at Salem. He became the second Tribe player with three walks in a game this season, the other being Max Moroff on April 7 vs. Columbus.
WELCOME BACK, WEISS: Erich Weiss was reinstated from the 7-day DL today. He was placed on the DL on July 3 with a right hip flexor strain. The Indians went 13-10 in the 23 games that he missed this month. Weiss played in three rehab games with Short-Season A West Virginia, batting .231 (3-for-13) with two doubles, two runs scored, five strikeouts and one stolen base.
LET'S TAKE TWO, AGAIN: The Indians' sweep of Friday night's doubleheader was their first doubleheader sweep of 2018 and fourth since the start of the 2017 campaign. Indy's previous twin bill sweep prior to last night was on June 15, 2017 at Norfolk. The last time they swept consecutive doubleheaders was last season as well, pairing a May 19 DH sweep vs. Toledo with that twin bill three weeks later at Norfolk.
SO LONG, MEADOWS: In addition to INF/OF Jose Osuna being recalled yesterday, OF Austin Meadows was promoted to Pittsburgh for a second time this season last night. The Pirates were forced to place OF Corey Dickerson on the 10-day DL with a left hamstring strain (retro to 7/25). The 23-year-old Meadows hit .250 (9-for-36) with one homer, three doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored in nine games with the Tribe after being optioned earlier this month.
LAVARN(WAY) OUTTA HERE: Ryan Lavarnway hit a 412-foot blast to right-center on Thursday night and a 423-foot shot last night, giving him seven on the season and five total at Victory Field. All five of his homers at The Vic have traveled over 400 feet, the longest being a 432-foot shot on June 14 vs. Toledo.
BY THE NUMBERS - 1.78: Today's Game 1 starter, Brandon Waddell, has posted a 1.78 ERA (5 ER/25.1 IP) over his last four starts. The Indians are 2-2 in those games.
