Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Behind a four-run top of the fourth the Syracuse Chiefs held on to win the rubber match of a three-game series 7-3 over the Durham Bulls on a soggy Sunday at the DBAP.
The Chiefs (43-63) opened the scoring in the visitor's fourth when Yadiel Hernandez led off with a double and later scored on a double by Tuffy Gosewisch. Later in the frame, following a single by Alejandro De Aza to put runners on the corners, Chris Dominguez hit a three-run home run to put the Chiefs in front 4-0.
In the home half of the fourth, the Bulls (60-45) cut into the four-run deficit with a two-run home run by Brandon Snyder to score Brandon Lowe who reached to lead off the inning with a bunt single.
Following a one-out single by Mac James in the fifth inning, Andrew Velazquez doubled to score James, but the tying run was stranded at second with a strikeout of Lowe to keep the score 4-3. The skies opened up after the fifth inning, causing a two hour and 12 minute rain delay.
After the delay, Syracuse tacked on one run in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Dominguez and two more runs in the top of the ninth on an error and an RBI single by Dominguez, extending its lead to 7-3. The third baseman finished with three hits and five RBI.
Bulls starter Andrew Moore (L, 4-6) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings. Chiefs reliever Wander Suero (W, 1-2) earned his first win of the season, tossing 2.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout.
The Bulls go on the road to face the Gwinnett Stripers (49-57) for the first game of a seven-game road trip on Monday night at Coolray Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Forrest Snow (5-5, 3.97) is scheduled to start for the Bulls, and Gwinnett is yet to name a starter.
