Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Mark Owuya ["oh WU ya"] has been reassigned by the Maple Leafs from the Marlies to the Royals. In a separate transaction, forward Kyle MacKinnon was recalled from the Royals by the Providence Bruins.
Owuya, a first year pro from Stockholm, Sweden, started the season with the Royals and went 1-0-1-0 with a 2.97 goals against average and .921 save percentage in three appearances for Reading prior to being recalled to the Marlies on October 24. While with Toronto, Owuya appeared in nine games, compiling a 5-1-1-1 record with a 1.78 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. In his most recent performance for the Marlies, Owuya stopped all twenty shots he faced from the Houston Aeros on Saturday, December 3, to register his first pro shutout. In two games with the Royals, MacKinnon did not register any points or penalty minutes.
The Royals return to action tomorrow (Thursday, December 8, 2011 @ 7:05 pm), when the team will face the Trenton Titans at the Sovereign Center. Select draft beer will be just $2.00 that night. The game night broadcast will start at 7:05 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
This Sunday (December 11, 2011 @ 4:05 pm) the Royals will host the Wheeling Nailers at the Sovereign Center. That day, fans are encouraged to bring all clothing items, and particularly winter coats and thermal underwear, to donate for US military veterans and their family members as part of a clothing drive with the Royals, the Berks County Combined Veterans, and the U.S. Army Reserves 733rd Transportation Unit. All fans making a donation that day will receive a buy-one, get-one-free voucher for the Royals game against the Trenton Titans on Friday, December 30, 2011.
