April 9, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis is the recipient of the South Carolina Stingrays' Jerry Zucker Community Service Award for the 2013-14 season, team president Rob Concannon announced today.
"We have a very special group of players this year who have done tremendous work in the community," said Concannon. "Everyone embraced the values in which our organization and this award stand for, no one more so than Jeff Jakaitis."
Jakaitis attended over 20 community events and volunteered more that 40 hours of time in the Charleston community this season. Currently in his second season with the Stingrays, Jakaitis regularly visited the children of MUSC Children's Hospital, prepared meals for the elderly at Lowcountry Food Bank, brought comfort to the patients at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge, landscaped the Butterfly Garden in Park Circle and read to students at many local elementary and middle schools including Jerry Zucker Middle School in North Charleston.
Jakaitis joins former forward and current Stingrays Head Coach Spencer Carbery (2009), forwards Matt Scherer (2010) and Jordan Pietrus (2011) along with defensemen Johann Kroll (2012) and Scooter Vaughan (2013) as winners of the award. He will be presented with a plaque during Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night this Friday.
The Stingrays celebrate Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night on Friday, April 11 against the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m. the North Charleston Coliseum. The first 1,000 fans receive a 2013-14 team photo courtesy of Sheila Lauffer at Data Imaging! Friday is also FREE parking! Stingrays forward Marty Clapton and defenseman Trevor Johnson will be inducted into the Stingrays Hall of Fame during the first intermission! After the contest, the Stingrays host a postgame jersey auction for the white regular-season and postseason jerseys.
