TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: With a 2014 Kelly Cup Playoff spot already clinched, the Cyclones enter the final week of the regular season in hopes of securing home ice advantage - and perhaps their second straight North Division title Tonight, the Kalamazoo Wings come to stand in the way for the final of 11 regular season meetings. Not surprisingly, the 2013-14 slate has been very close between the two long-time rivals - with Cincinnati holding a 5-4-1 record.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: WET WEDNESDAY / GREEK NIGHT - Fans 21+ can enjoy $1 PBR and Miller High Life while sporting their fraternity and sorority letters!
SCOUTING THE WINGS: Nick Bootland's club comes to town having lost two straight games and now holds just a two point edge over the Cyclones in the Eastern Conference standings. While their home record has been excellent, Kalamazoo has been quite pedestrian away from Wings Stadium - going just 18-14-0-2. Rookie Matt Caria leads the Wings in scoring and ranks fourth among ECHL rookies with 54 points (24g, 30a) in 63 games. He has notched four goals and an assist in the season series with Cincinnati. Veteran defenseman Sam Ftorek continues to produce from the blue line this year, amassing 44 tallies (12g, 32a) in 67 contests - leading the league among rear guards. Jordan Binnington and Joel Martin have shared the goaltending workload in 2013-14. Binnington has earned a 21-13-1-1 record with a 2.33 goals-against average while Martin has accrued a 19-9-1-4 mark and a 2.89 GAA.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: FEBRUARY 17, 2014: Ray Kaunisto's early third period goal proved to be the game-winner as the Wings snuck past the Cyclones by a 4-3 final score in front of 2,222 at U.S. Bank Arena. Trevor Lewis potted two goals for Cincinnati in the defeat.
Points from the Point: The Cyclones have found some great offensive help from the blue line crew this season. Mike Dalhuisen and Taylor Aronson have combined for 64 points this season - both ranking in the ECHL's top 12 among rear guards. Dalhuisen has posted points in three straight while Aronson has tallies in five of his last seven games.
Shalla's Shelling: Josh Shalla has been one of Cincy's most consistent contributors of late. The Nashville Predators prospect has 26 points this season, just three shy of setting a career-high and has posted tallies in five straight games.
