Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin Named AHL Player of the Week

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period of Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6. Aubin stopped 90 of 92 shots in three games to help the Penguins secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2001.

He made 28 saves on Wednesday as the Penguins defeated Cincinnati, 2-1. Aubin then faced South Division champion Norfolk on successive nights, posting a 23-save shutout in a 2-0 win on Friday, and turning aside 39 of 40 shots in Saturday's 1-1 tie. For the week, he was 2-0-1 with a 0.65 goals against average, a .978 save percentage and his third shutout of the season.

Aubin, 25, was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on February 26. In 16 games since being assigned to the AHL Penguins, he has a record of 8-6-1 with a 1.89 goals against average, a .937 save percentage and three shutouts.

In 21 games this season with Pittsburgh, Aubin posted a record of 6-13-0 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was drafted by the Penguins in the third round (76th overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft. Aubin has played in 146 career games, all with the Penguins, posting a record of 59-63-11 with a 2.91 goals against average and five career shutouts.

In recognition of his achievement, he will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Pocono Pirates Amateur Youth Hockey Club in Aubin's name.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will meet the Utah Grizzlies in the Western Conference Qualifying Series (Series "Q2") of the 2003 American Hockey League Calder Cup playoffs. The first game of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Thursday, April 10 at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

After an off day on Friday (April 11), the series will resume with Game Two on Saturday (April 12) at 7:05 p.m. and if necessary, Game Three would be held on Sunday (April 13) at 5:05 p.m.

The Penguins (No. 8 seed) completed their fourth AHL season on Sunday with a 4-3 overtime win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the First Union Spectrum. Toby Petersen scored two goals, including the game-winner 56 seconds into overtime as the Penguins finished the season third in the South Division with a 36-32-7-5 (84 points) record.

The Penguins were 1-3-0 in the regular season against the Grizzlies (No. 9 seed), including a 1-1 record at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
