Worcester IceCats News Release
WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester IceCats, in conjunction with the Greater Worcester Habitat for Humanity, today announced the results of the "Jerseys Off Our Backs" program benefiting the Greater Worcester Habitat for Humanity. The fundraiser, which ran from March 22nd through April 4th raised $12,391.
During the two-week campaign, IceCats fans purchased one dollar scratch tickets, with each ticket providing fans with an opportunity to win an IceCats game-worn home jersey. The winners then participated in a center-ice ceremony on Fan Appreciation Night on April 4th, collecting the jersey directly from the player's back.
IceCats Executive Vice President Kevin Cummings who spearheaded the partnership with Habitat for Humanity commented, " The response to this event was outstanding and the 'Cats fans once again demonstrated their generosity for the Worcester Community." He went on to say, " We're ecstatic about being able to provide assistance to our local Habitat and the IceCats look forward to partnering with them on an on-going basis."
The Greater Worcester Habitat for Humanity was formed to create homes by working in continuing partnership with people in need who are committed and able to become homeowners. Habitat's volunteers feel that the greatest means to assist families is in providing a home ownership opportunity. The Habitat program is one of self-empowerment, centering on the adage: A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT.
The 'Cats open the 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs in Binghamton versus the Senators this Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th. Worcester then hosts game three on Friday, April 18th and if necessary, game four on Saturday, April 19th. All games have a 7:05 PM start time. If the series goes five games, game five is slated for Tuesday, April 22nd in Binghamton. Tickets for playoff games are on sale now at all Ticketmaster Outlets and the Centrum Centre Box Office.
