SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending April 6, 2003. Aubin stopped 90 of 92 shots in three games to help the Penguins secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2001.
Aubin made 28 saves on Wednesday as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defeated Cincinnati, 2-1. He then faced South Division champion Norfolk on successive nights, posting a 23-save shutout in a 2-0 win on Friday, and turning aside 39 of 40 shots in Saturday's 1-1 tie. For the week, Aubin was 2-0-1 with a 0.65 goals against average, a .978 save percentage and his third shutout of the season. In recognition of his achievement, Aubin will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Pocono Pirates Amateur Youth Hockey Club in Aubin's name.
In 16 games since being assigned to Wilkes-Barre, Aubin has a record of 8-6-1 with a 1.89 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. A third-round draft pick by Pittsburgh in 1995, the Montreal native has appeared in 146 career NHL contests with the Penguins, compiling a record of 56-63-11.
