Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Todd Glaesmann ripped an RBI-double in the bottom of the tenth inning on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark to walk the Bowling Green Hot Rods (36-32) off against the West Michigan Whitecaps (31-37) 1-0. The win, also made possible by ten shutout innings by Bowling Green pitching, places the Hot Rods in a position of needing just one win over the final two games in the first half to clinch the franchise's second playoff berth.
The Hot Rods and visiting TinCaps remained scoreless until the bottom of the tenth inning because of stellar pitching by both sides. Both starters, Bowling Green's Parker Markel and Fort Wayne's Matt Wisler, hurled six, shutout innings on just three hits. Hot Rods relievers Jason McEachern and Austin Hubbard also tacked on another four, scoreless frames.
Fort Wayne had two opportunities to strike for the game's first run, both times in regulation. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Hot Rods third baseman Tyler Goeddel made a fantastic diving stab behind third base to keep the TinCaps off the scoreboard. Then, in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs, Austin Hubbard entered the game and promptly struck out Jones.
With only one hit to their credit since the second inning, the Hot Rods finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Drew Vettleson singled to left field to bring Glaesmann to the plate. The Texan then smashed a ball off of the wall in the left-centerfield gap to score Vettleson from first and walk the Hot Rods off to the win.
Needing just one win to clinch a playoff spot, the Hot Rods and TinCaps will play the second game of their three-game series at Bowling Green Ballpark at 7:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will give the start to LHP Ryan Carpenter, while the TinCaps will counter with RHP Ruben Mejia. Tune in to the game on 1340-AM "The Ticket" and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM CDT.
The Medical Center is hosting their annual Men's Health Tune Up at the ballpark on Saturday night, which also features postgame Fireworks presented by WBKO. For ticket information, log on to BGHotRods.com or call (270)-901-2121.
