BELOIT, WI - The Burlington Bees (31-37) scored in bunches and beat the Beloit Snappers (39-30) with an 11-to-3 score. The Bees received a boost from their all-start starter Drew Granier who struck out seven Snappers batters in seven innings.

Granier made his first start since his rough outing against the Quad Cities River Bandits on June 11 in Burling- ton. Granier came into that game with an ERA as low as 1.89, but watched it balloon to 2.95 after allowing 10 earned runs in the loss.

Yet Granier still came into Saturday's game with the most win in the Midwest League and one of the best ERAs in the Athletics' farm system. He didn't improve on the ERA in the win against the Snappers, but he certainly displayed his all-star caliber stuff.

Overall, Granier went seven innings and scattered eight hits. He allowed the Snappers to score once in the fifth, sixth and seventh to give him three earned runs, but he also dialed up the strikeouts. Granier struck out seven batters without yielding one walk. He's now 3-0 against the Snappers and 9-3 on the season, which still makes him the pitcher with the most wins in the league.

Not to be outdone, the Bees' offense displayed an all-star effort at the plate. The Bees took an early lead in the first after ripped a double to the left field wall that scored Eliezer Mesa. Vollmuth eventually scored on base hit by Bobby Crocker.

The Bees scored three times in the second on an error by Miguel Sano and a fielder's choice. They offered more support for Granier by scoring twice in the third on an RBI single by Nick Rickles and another fielder's choice. The Bees scored two more runs in the sixth and the eighth to take an 11-to-3 lead into the ninth that held up.

The highlights on offense included a 3-for-4 game from B.A. Vollmuth and a 3-for-5 game from Bobby Crocker. Eliezer Mesa went 2-for-6 with three stolen bases and now has 10 in 11 attempts this season. The defense also avoided making any mistakes, while the Snappers committed five errors in the game.

The Bees try to win the rubber match at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The game marks the last chance for a win in the first half of the season. For information on Bees baseball call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
