Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - Ryan Carpenter was masterful in his seven innings of scoreless baseball, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (37-32) won 4-0 over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (31-38) on Saturday night, clinching the Eastern Division First-Half Wild Card spot. In front of a season-high 5,764 fans, the Hot Rods clinched their second consecutive postseason appearance when Yeison Asencio grounded out to Jeff Malm in the ninth.

Bowling Green pitching, which is yet to allow a run in the series, was strong again on Saturday night in front of the largest Bowling Green Ballpark crowd of the season. Carpenter picked up where Friday's starter Parker Markel left off, hurling a career high seven frames on a career high nine strikeouts. Andrew Bellatti and Austin Hubbard both hurled scoreless innings of relief, continuing a twenty-inning scoreless streak for Hot Rods pitchers that dates back to Thursday's eighth inning.

Offensively on Saturday night, the Hot Rods were fueled by Jake Hager's three hits and two RBI's. The 19-year-old shortstop lined a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to pad the Hot Rods lead to four runs. Cameron Seitzer and Ryan Brett also contributed with a multi-hit performance at the plate. Todd Glaesmann also extended his season-long hitting streak to 14 games and also drove in a run.

The victory sends the Hot Rods to Midwest League playoffs in September as the Midwest League's Eastern Division Wild Card winner. After not making the playoffs in the franchise's first three seasons, Bowling Green will now participate in consecutive postseasons. The Quarterfinal round of the 2012 Midwest League Playoffs begins on September 5, 2012.
