Atlanta Gladiators News Release

ELMIRA, NY - Forward Matt Francis marked his return off the IR with a goal, but the Gladiators had their six-game winning streak snapped 2-1 by the Elmira Jackals Friday night at First Arena.

Francis missed 38 games with a shoulder injury, but beat Jackals (29-24-7) keeper Marco Cousineau on the powerplay from the near circle at 8:29 of the third to bring the Glads (28-26-7) within one. Michael Forney and Dustin Cameron assisted on the tally, Francis' second of the season.

That was as close as Gwinnet would get, however, despite several golden opportunities and a couple of hit posts late. Cousineau stopped 30 of 31 shots for his fifth win in a row. Chris Carrozzi stopped 26 of 28 for the Glads.

Elmira has now won three in a row and seven of eight since firing head coach Malcolm Cameron in late February. They take over sole possession of seventh in the East with the win, dropping Gwinnett to eighth.

After Gwinnet dominated the first half of the opening period and outshot the Jackals 8-1, a two-man advantage swung the momentum.

Michael Dubuc found the back of the net for the 23rd time this season on a backdoor set-up from Justin Donati and RJ Anderson on the powerplay to give Elmira the 1-0 edge after 20 minutes.

Justin Barr split the Gwinnett defense and rifled a shot five-hole on Carrozzi to push the lead to 2-0 at 8:17 of the second. Anderson picked up his second assist on Barr's first goal with Elmira.

The Jackals had two five-on-three chances late in the period, but the Glads penalty kill held strong the keep the deficit at two after two.

Gwinnett is now 2-22-6 when trailing after two. They went 1-for-4 on the powerplay while Elmira went 1-for-5. The Glads outshot the Jackals 31-28, and 14-5 in the third.

Both teams are back at it Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. at First Arena in Elmira.
