Wheeling Nailers News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA - Andrew Fournier scored twice to lead the Kalamazoo Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Wheeling Nailers at the Cambria County War Memorial Friday night.

Despite the fact there were six power plays in the opening period, neither team was able to take advantage by lighting the lamp in the game's first 20 minutes.

Kalamazoo's Andrew Fournier broke the scoreless tie halfway through the second. Darryl Lloyd brought the puck to the top of the crease and fired a shot off the pads of Nailers goaltender Peter Delmas. The rebound clipped off the shortside post causing the puck to stall in the crease where Fournier tapped a shot into the net for the goal. The Wings took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Fournier struck again, extending the lead to 2-0 at 1:37 of the third, on a wrist shot from the slot. The Wings made it 3-0 on a rocket shot from Trent Daavettila from the top of the slot, which ripped past Delmas and into the back of the net.

Wheeling registered on the scoreboard at 13:39 of the period when Tyler Murovich centered a feed at the top of the crease to Andrew Oprik, who slipped the puck through the five-hold of Kalamazoo goalie Ryan Nie. However, the comeback bid was cut short, as the Wings buckled down defenseively, and adding an empty net goal from Kory Karlander to seal the 4-1 victory.

The win extends the Wings lead in the North Division to eight points, while also extending their unbeaten streak to 15 games, going 12-0-0-3 during that stretch.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Tune into The Mix 97.3 or wheelingnailers.com to listen to the game.
