Gladiators Team Up with Lions Club
February 8, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have teamed up with the Lions Clubs of Georgia to assist in the organizations donation drive collecting old eyeglasses, old cell phones and old hearing aids.
Fans are encouraged to bring the used items to the Gladiators game on Sunday, February 18th when Charlotte visits the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 4:05 p.m.
"This will be similar to how we handle teddy bears and winter coats," said Gladiators Director of Community Relations Jim Hall.
"We are asking the fans to help out those less fortunate, and these items will be repaired and refurbished to make them workable for others.
Members of the Lions Club of Norcross will be collecting the items as they staff the Gladiators "Community Organization of the Night" table and will be accepting donations throughout the game. The Lions Club will then make these available to their national and international network of Charities.
"Our fans have always stepped up for various donation nights," said Hall, "and we are hopeful that in conjunction with the Lions Clubs this can also become an annual tradition at a Gladiators Game."
First established in 1917, the Lions Clubs have 1.3 million members in over 200 Countries worldwide. They have a longstanding reputation around the world assisting with programs related to preventable blindness.
