Fresno Falcons News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces scored a pair of power-play goals on their way to a 3-1 win over the Fresno Falcons on Wednesday in front of 4,981 fans at Sullivan Arena.
For the fifth straight time in the season series, Alaska scored the first goal of the game. With four seconds remaining on a power-play opportunity, Peter Metcalf beat Ryan MacDonald with a shot over the left shoulder at 3:37 on Alaska's first shot on goal of the game.
The Falcons pulled even at 8:52, also scoring on their first shot of the game. Cory Murphy fed the puck to John Morlang, who was all alone on the near post, and Morlang easily tapped the puck into an open net for his team-leading 17th goal of the season.
The game remained even at one until the 1:23 mark of the third period when the Aces notched their second power-play goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead. MacDonald got caught out of net trying to clear the puck, and Olivier Filion capitalized, putting home the rebound of a Julian Talbot shot for his 22nd goal of the season.
Mike Scott scored an empty-net goal with 39.8 seconds remaining to set the final.
Fresno has scored just nine goals in its last eight games, and was 0-for-9 on the power play. The Falcons have not scored a power-play goal in 33 opportunities against the Aces this season.
The Falcons are back at home on Friday, hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons will be wearing red hearts on the back of their helmets in celebration of February being national Go Red for Women Heart Month, to remember those who have passed away of heart disease and to celebrate those who have survived. Friday's game also includes a Guns and Hoses Broomball Game where area police and fire departments will duke it out for Broomball Supremacy. The Falcons also welcome the Central Valley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to the game.
Fans are also encouraged to come to the game with their bags packed for the chance to win a weekend getaway at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino. Two lucky couples will be selected to receive a limo ride to the casino, $250 in spending money, two "Dinner for Two" certificates, and accommodations for Friday and Saturday nights. Following the game, join Falcons' players at Logan's Roadhouse, located at 7507 Blackstone Avenue near Riverpark, for a post-game party.
Tickets for all Falcons home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, by phone at (559) 485-8497, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, or at any TicketMaster outlet. All Falcons' games air on 1550 Sporting News Radio starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show 15 minutes prior to face off.
