Charlotte Checkers News Release

The Charlotte Checkers will hold their inaugural 'Pink in the Rink' game at 4:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 11 to benefit Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, Carolina Breast Friends and American Cancer Society.

The Checkers will wear special pink jerseys bearing the logos of the three organizations and there will be a live jersey auction following the game with the proceeds going to the organizations.

NASCAR Busch East Series female driver, Katie Hagar has paired up with the Charlotte Checkers hockey club of the ECHL and the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for the February 11th Pink in the Rink game. The Damariscotta, Maine native has worked with the American Cancer Society for the last five years of her racing career after having the desire to make a difference in her own community. Katie and her Katie Hagar Motorsports team hold and participate in several annual events including "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk" in Damariscotta, Maine and the "Katie Hagar Motorsports Ride and Drive Program" in which people can choose to get behind the wheel of Katie's race car or ride along with Katie for 10 laps and 100% of the profits go to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

"I am so excited to be participating in this event with the Charlotte Checkers. I am a huge sports fan and I know what a great franchise the Checkers are and their reputation speaks for it's self, that's why I am coming all the way down from Maine just to be involved, stated Katie Hagar."

Katie was recently selected to compete in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity combine, which is a program designed to increase diversity in NASCAR's audience and participant base. Hagar will be in attendance at the February 11th game signing autographs as well as giving away pink bracelets, which show support for those undergoing treatment, honor those who we have lost, and celebrate those who have survived.
