Atlanta Gladiators News Release
GREENVILLE, SC ¬" With first place in the South Division on the line, the Gwinnett Gladiators picked up a big road win over the Greenville Road Warriors 2-1 Sunday night at the BI-LO Center.
Chris Carrozzi made 40 saves, and Gwinnett snapped a three-game winless streak to hand Greenville just their second loss at home in regulation this season.
Greenville (9-5-1) out-shot Gwinnett (9-4-3) 18-9 in the first but neither team could find the back of the net.
Mike Forney finally broke the tie, scoring a goal for the third game in a row to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead at the 5:30 mark of the second. Forney beat goalie Brian Stewart high glove side with a wrister off a nice setup by defensemen Dave Phillips and Matt Krug for his fifth goal.
Greenville tied the game a little over ten minutes later, as Paul McIlveen tallied his first of the season off a fantastic pass from Brendan Connolly to make it a 1-1 game at the end of two despite the Glads out-shooting Greenville 20-6 in the period.
After a back and forth start to the third, Pat Galivan blasted home a re-directed shot from Chris Poli at 12:42 to give the Gladiators a lead they would not give up.
Both teams combined to go 0-for-15 on the powerplay, with Gwinnett going 0-for-7.
The Gladiators are back in action Tuesday night at 7:05 pm EST against the South Carolina Stingrays at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
